Junior Police Academy, DARE Program In Middlesex Co. This Summer

The summer program is for children entering 5th and 6th grade in Middlesex County and will run for two weeks.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Middlesex County’s D.A.R.E. Jr. Academy is back for the third year, after growing public interest, Sheriff Mildred Scott announced.

Scott decided to implement a summer program for children entering 5th and 6th grade in Middlesex County in the 2022-2023 school year. The program will run for two weeks and will include a junior police academy as well.

The program will run from Monday, Aug. 15 to Friday, Aug. 26, 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. The fee is $150 per child and will include a t-shirt, a ball cap, a water bottle, supplies and a graduation party at commencement, Scott's office said.

D.A.R.E or Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a highly-acclaimed program that gives children the skills to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence.

Founded in 1983, the program is led by police officers, who teach children how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.

The D.A.R.E. Jr. Police Academy classes will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Way, Sayreville.

Participants should bring their own lunches and snacks, as well as gym-style shorts, sneakers, and mask.

The daily routine will include roll call, platoon formation, D.A.R.E. lessons, lunch, drill, multiple demos and police lessons, and daily physical training. The program is limited to 45 seats.
