Man Broke Into East Brunswick LA Fitness Lockers and a Car, Police Said

Police caught the man who broke into multiple lockers at the Rt. 18 L.A. Fitness, plus a car in the parking lot, they say.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - A man was charged this week for breaking into multiple lockers, plus a car, in the East Brunswick L.A. Fitness on Rt. 18. The South Amboy man broke locks off lockers and went inside them, stealing cash and other times, East Brunswick police said. He then used the car keys he stole from one of the lockers to unlock a gym client's car in the parking lot, police said.

This past Monday, employees of the L.A. Fitness on Rt. 18 observed Manuel Flores, 45, of South Amboy, enter the gym. The employees recognized him as a possible suspect in thefts from lockers in the past and they called East Brunswick police.

Police arrived and, after speaking to Flores, he was arrested for an outstanding burglary warrant out of East Brunswick. The warrant was based on an earlier investigation in which Flores was identified as committing a November 2016 theft from one of the gym's lockers, in which he used the victim’s key fob to burglarize his vehicle parked in the gym lot.

Then on Tuesday, an additional victim from the L.A. Fitness called the police and told them that his lock had been broken off of his locker at the gym and cash was stolen. The cash matched the denominations possessed by Flores during his arrest.

Flores was charged with the multiple burglaries and possession of burglary tools (a screwdriver found on him when he was arrested).
