Man Charged With South River, Sayreville Car Break-Ins

He was found hanging out at the local South River Krauszer's​ with proceeds from the stolen cars, police said.

SOUTH RIVER, NJ — A man was charged with breaking into multiple cars in South River and Sayreville, police said Monday, and he was found hanging out at the local Krauszer's with proceeds from the stolen cars.

The first set of break-ins was Thursday, May 18, police said. At 10:21 a.m. that day, a resident on Hillside Avenue in South River reported that two of his vehicles had been burglarized. The entire incident was caught on the home's surveillance camera. After watching the surveillance footage, police were able to possibly identify the suspect.

While near the South River Krauszer's at 81 Main Street, Detective Joseph Guiamano located a man matching the suspect description carrying several bags. The man, identified as 33-year-old Alexander Sarvaic Jr. of Newark, was positively identified and placed under arrest for burglary.

He had money, several GPS units, a cell phone, tools, camera equipment, credit cards, various IDs and numerous other personal items on him, police said. It was determined that the items were stolen from another vehicle on Hillside Avenue as well as numerous victims in Sayreville.

Sarvaic Jr. was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and theft of a credit card with intent to use. With assistance from the Sayreville Police Department Detective Bureau, a large amount of recovered stolen property was successfully returned to victims from South River and Sayreville.
