Man OD's On Heroin In Windsor Park Mall Parking Lot

A man was found unconscious in his pick-up truck, slouched over the wheel, at 1 a.m. outside the Windsor Park Mall.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A North Brunswick man was found passed out from a heroin overdose in the parking lot of Windsor Park Mall in East Brunswick last month, police said.

An East Brunswick police officer came across the silver pickup truck running in the parking lot at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1. He knocked on the door and saw Randolph Varbelow, 43, slouched over the steering wheel, unconscious and unresponsive. He knocked several more times, waking Varbelow up, who opened the door. The officer saw two glassine folds of suspected heroin on his lap.

A subsequent search of his pickup unearthed 28 more capsules of heroin. Varbelow was arrested and charged with drug possession.

Police said they found heroin and suboxone in a car during a motor vehicle stop on Rt. 18 south on May 24 at 2 p.m., near the Highland Street extension. David Doby, 39, of South Plainfield was arrested after police said they found several wax folds of heroin and suboxone in his car.

CLARIFICATION: This story was clarified to indicate that the overdose took place in a parking lot that serves the entire strip mall, which includes Windsor Pharmacy and several other stores.
