Man Robs East Brunswick Home, Attempts to Flee on Bicycle, Police Say

Police quickly found the bicycle riding man in the neighborhood

EAST BRUNSWICK-- After a failed getaway attempt on a bike, a local man was arrested in connection with an East Brunswick jewelry robbery, police say.

Felix Aviles, 57, was found by police riding a beach cruiser type bicycle on the same road that a neighbor spotted someone feeling from a house on a bike.

A woman had reported a suspicious man entering a home in the neighborhood whose owners were at work, on Sept. 21. The neighbor described him as a tall man in blue jeans and a baseball hat. Police found a rear window and door were open, and drawers had been looked though.

Shortly afterwards, police spotted a man matching the neighbors description on the same street as the break in. When they stopped his bike, Aviles attempted to get rid of several pieces of jewelry, police say. The neighbor said Aviles was the same person she saw fleeing the home.

Aviles is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and theft.
