Middlesex Co. Sheriff's Office To Hold Annual Civilian Academy

The academy aims to educate residents on the various functions and duties of the Sheriff's Office.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Do you want to learn more about law enforcement operations? This is your chance.

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office will be holding an 8-week-long Sheriff’s Civilian Academy for County residents in the Spring.

The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is designed to educate residents on the various functions and duties of the Sheriff’s Office.

Applications are currently being accepted for the program, which will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy located in Sayreville.

The first session is scheduled for April 20, 7 to 9 p.m. Classes will continue weekly on Thursdays, except for one Saturday class. The program ends with a graduation ceremony scheduled for June 15.

Each session will highlight functions of the Sheriff’s Office including, defensive tactics, K-9, fingerprinting, courts, civil process and more. Participants also get to will tour the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and the Main Courthouse located in New Brunswick.

“The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is a wonderful way for us to reach out to the residents of Middlesex County. It is part of our mission to protect and serve the public,” Sheriff Mildred S Scott said.

“Our goal is to give Academy participants a better understanding of the role of the Sheriff’s Office that they can take back into their communities.”

Applications are due no later than March 1. Applications will be used to determine suitability for the program.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and residents of Middlesex County, with no felony convictions, should not be wanted for any crime and must submit to a limited background check.
