The station is on the ground floor of the hospital’s CARES parking garage and it’s “part of a PSE&G pilot program designed to help spur the adoption of electric vehicles in the utility’s electric service territory,’’ a news release from Middlesex County said.

Staffers at St. Peter’s who drive electric vehicles can immediately begin using the charging station, the news release said.

“Middlesex County is committed to using clean energy sources, “ Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios said in a prepared statement. “One of our major projects, established in 2013, was a solar panel system at our North Brunswick Complex. These panels currently provide 100 percent of the power needed at the complex, saving taxpayers a million dollars a year while also enabling Middlesex County to help save the environment. ...The Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and I believe this station is another great example of using clean energy... it will keep our environment healthy, conserve natural resources, and set an example for others to make use of alternative energy sources.”
