New Luxury Apartments Coming To Route 18 Corridor In East Brunswick
The first phase of the project will include luxury apartments, retail and restaurants, with indoor and outdoor amenities.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Township’s Planning Board recently approved “Vermella East Brunswick,” a luxury apartment development on the Route 18 corridor.
The property is being developed by Russo Development and River Development. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Township Tuesday morning.
“Melillo Bauer Carman, along with a talented group of consultants, are thrilled to be part of a new vision for the Route 18 corridor,” landscape engineers Melillo Bauer Carman said in a media statement.

The first phase of the project will include luxury apartments, retail shops and restaurants, along with indoor and outdoor amenities.
The entry to the apartments will feature a tree-lined boulevard, a linear water feature, and graphics.

The development will have an expansive pedestrian plaza with site furnishings, colorful landscape and decorative pavements. The property will also feature an elevated restaurant terrace.
Two expansive courtyard spaces will offer recreational activities. Other features include a pool, sloped lawn, lounge seating, covered bar, game tables, and fire bowls.
DMR Architects was retained by the East Brunswick Redevelopment Agency in 2018 to create a plan to address high vacancy rates.
“This event represents a milestone in East Brunswick’s transformation of the Route 18 Corridor into a vibrant mixed-use town center that captures the retail opportunities for both local residents and commuters that travel through here everyday,” Fran Reiner, PP, LLA, Director of Planning & Redevelopment and Partner at DMR Architects said.
“It is rewarding to see the vision that we helped the Township create move closer to becoming East Brunswick’s first walkable town center.”
Demolition on several vacant retail structures in East Brunswick at Route 18 South, North of Lake Avenue and to the East of Renee Road has already begun.
On Tuesday, East Brunswick officials and the developers presented plans to commence demolition and site improvements, with a formal groundbreaking in the future.
“Our collaboration with East Brunswick will result in an exciting new mixed-use destination that will add new luxury apartments and lifestyle retail along the Route 18 corridor,” Ed Russo, CEO of Russo Development said in a statement.
