North Brunswick Fire: Family of Six Jumps Out Window to Escape

After they were woken by one of the children in the house, an entire family jumped out the window to escape a fire on Maple Avenue Tuesday.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - After they were woken up by one of the children in the house, an entire family of six jumped out a second-story window to escape a fire early Tuesday morning in North Brunswick. Some of them broke their ankles in the fall, but incredibly, everyone managed to escape the flames without serious injury, police said.

At 1 a.m. Tuesday, police got a 911 call about a fire on Maple Avenue. Upon arriving, officers quickly discovered 643 Georges Road was consumed by a heavy fire. That address houses a one-story barber shop to the front, and a two-story dwelling to the rear. Officers also found several occupants of the building in the front yard.

A juvenile family member awoke to discover the fire, alerted the others and all narrowly escaped by jumping from a second-floor window, police learned. Some people broke their ankles in the landing, but those were the most serious injuries. All were transported to area hospitals by North Brunswick EMS.
