NYC Man Visiting South River Exposed Himself To Residents, Police Say

SOUTH RIVER, NJ — The South River Police Department has charged a New York man with multiple counts of lewdness following an investigation into a string of public exposure incidents in July, Chief Mark Tinitigan said Thursday.

Between July 2 and July 7, police received multiple reports of a man exposing himself in public to members of the community. Most of the incidents occurred just off Whitehead Avenue near Magiera Street, Spring Street, and Jeffrie Avenue, according to police.

Detectives used surveillance footage provided by local residents to develop a suspect. Through coordination with the Patrol Division and the New York Police Department, the suspect was identified as Anthony Lopez, 21.

Lopez has been charged with five counts of lewdness, and an active warrant has been issued for his arrest. Detectives believe Lopez is currently residing in New York City and was visiting South River during the incidents.

Tinitigan praised the officers involved in the investigation.

"This investigation is a great example of what can be accomplished through teamwork, persistence, and strong community partnerships," Tinitigan said.

Tinitigan also thanked the officers involved, the New York City Police Department, and residents who provided surveillance footage.

Detectives also believe there may be additional victims who have not previously reported incidents involving Lopez, police said.
