SOUTH RIVER, NJ — On Tuesday, South River police raided a home in the borough and said they found more than two pounds of marijuana, as well as marijuana oil.

Members of the South River police department executed a search warrant at a residence on Augusta Street, after an ongoing narcotics investigation into the home. Over two pounds of marijuana, cartridges of marijuana oil, drug paraphernalia, approximately $540 cash and a motor vehicle were seized.

Two residents, Ariel Martinez, 25, and Jorge Martinez, 28, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. It is only legal to have marijuana in New Jersey if it is for medical use, and then patients must have a physician's recommendation and a state-issued identification card. Even then, patients are only allowed up to two ounces of marijuana per month. No one is allowed to grow marijuana in their homes.
