Pakistan Day Parade To Be Held In Middlesex County

The state’s first Pakistan Day Parade will be held Sunday on a route that begins in Edison and ends in Woodbridge.

The parade, which organizers want to make an annual event, will begin at 2 p.m. at the site of the old Shop-Rite on Oak Tree Road in Edison.

It will end on Middlesex Avenue in Woodbridge, where a festival, that will include food and artists, will be held until 7 p.m.

Organizers want to “highlight and celebrate the cultural, economic and social benefits the Pakistani community provides to New Jersey and the greater United States,’’ a news release said.

While the event celebrates Pakistani culture, everyone is invited to attend.

“We are extremely pleased with the excitement for the parade from people of all walks of life, backgrounds and heritages,” Sam Khan, the president of the parade committee said in a prepared statement. “It’s long past due that a population that’s as culturally significant as the New Jersey’s Pakistani Community has an open celebration of its heritage.”
