Popular Olive Oil Company Plans Relocation To East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — An olive oil company is relocating to East Brunswick, drawn by the township's freight rail access, Mayor Cohen said during a recent update.

Colavita, an olive oil company, is moving from Edison to East Brunswick after outgrowing its current facility, according to Cohen. The company is taking over a building in the township according to Cohen, who said the move marks the first time in his 10 years as mayor that a company has relocated to town specifically for freight rail access.

Cohen said Colavita's primary draw is the freight train line that runs through East Brunswick and stops near the company's new facility — a line Edison does not have.

“There's no freight train line that goes through Edison, and they need the freight line,” Cohen said on the podcast “The Buzz About East Brunswick.”

The freight route runs underneath the Route 18 bridge near Iker Street, which is separately slated for state and Conrail repair work.

Cohen did not provide a timeline for when Colavita's move would be complete.
