Promotions and New Hires at Police Department
The East Brunswick Department of Public Safety promoted one officer to sergeant and swore in four new officers, last week.

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, the East Brunswick Police Department of Public Safety promoted one officer to the rank of sergeant while swearing in four newly hired officers.
The ceremony took place at the on Cranbury Road. Patrolman Sean Goggins was promoted to sergeant while Nicholas Mauro, Jason Fama, John Hoernlein and Philip Hoffman took their places on the force, replacing several officers who retired this year.

Sgt. Goggins is a 15 year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department. He was assigned to the Patrol Division upon his graduation from the New Jersey State Police Academy in Sea Girt with the 195th Municipal Class in May of 1997. In 2003, he was transferred to the Investigative Division where he was assigned to the Juvenile Bureau. There he performed the duties of a Juvenile Detective until his transfer back to the Patrol Division in June of 2011.
Sgt. Goggins graduated from St. John’s University in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He is a Crisis/Hostage Negotiator for the East Brunswick Police SWAT Team. He has received several Letters of Commendation while serving in the Patrol and Investigative Divisions. Sgt. Goggins lives in Hazlet with his wife, Marianne and their two children, Patrick and Ryan. He will be assigned to the Patrol Division where he will serve as a Shift Supervisor.

Patrolman Mauro is 23 years old and a graduate of Roselle Catholic High School and LeMoyne College where he graduated with a degree in Criminology. He completed his basic police training at the Union County Police Academy. He then served as a patrolman with the Fanwood Borough Police Department. Patrolman Mauro resides in Hillside. After completing field training, he will be assigned to the Patrol Section.
Patrolman Fama is 30 years old and a graduate of North Brunswick High School and Rutgers University where he graduated with a degree in Environmental and Business Economics. He completed his basic police training at the Union County Police Academy. He then served as a patrolman with the Westfield Township Police Department. Patrolman Fama resides in North Brunswick. After completing field training, he will be assigned to the Patrol Section.
Patrolman Hoernlein Jr. is 24 years old and a graduate of Old Bridge High School and Monmouth University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He completed his basic police training at the Somerset County Police Academy. Patrolman Hoernlein resides in Cliffwood Beach. After completing field training, he will be assigned to the Patrol Section.
Patrolman Hoffman Jr. is 25 years old and a graduate of South Brunswick High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served from 2006 to 2010. He was honorably discharged in 2010. He is currently pursuing a degree from Caldwell College. He completed his police basic training at the Somerset County Police Academy. Patrolman Hoffman resides in Kendall Park. After completing field training, he will be assigned to the Patrol Section.
