Raccoon With Rabies Found in East Brunswick

People stumbled across the raccoon lethargic and drooling saliva in a parking lot, and called 911 Monday.

East Brunswick, NJ - A raccoon found in East Brunswick Township has tested positive for rabies, the Middlesex County Office of Health Services confirmed to Patch.

The raccoon was found Monday in the area of Cranbury Road and Kingswood Boulevard in East Brunswick. People stumbled across the raccoon lethargic and drooling saliva in a parking lot of a housing development, and someone called 911.

Animal Control officers arrived; the raccoon was killed and its carcass was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. On Tuesday, it came back positive for rabies.

No humans or other animals were exposed to this raccoon, health officials said.

While this is the first rabid animal found in East Brunswick so far this year, this is the third rabid animal reported in Middlesex County in 2016.
