Raising Cane's Wins Approval For East Brunswick Restaurant Site

The chicken-finger chain will replace Red Lobster that has been vacant for a while.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A fast-food chain will breathe new life into a Route 18 property that's sat empty for more than two years.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers recently received final zoning approval to construct a new restaurant on the site of a former Red Lobster, which shuttered following an August 2022 fire and never reopened. The seafood chain's subsequent bankruptcy filing in 2024 sealed the building's fate.

The approved plans include a 3,500-square-foot restaurant featuring dual drive-thru lanes at the Route 18 and Cindy Way intersection. The location positions Raising Cane's near Brunswick Square Mall and is close to an existing Denny's.
