Reminder: May 31 The Deadline To Register East Brunswick Alarms

Thursday, May 31 is the deadline to register your home security system with the East Brunswick police department, or be fined.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Reminder, East Brunswick homeowners and business owners: Thursday, May 31 is the deadline to register your home security system with the East Brunswick police department.

East Brunswick residents and businesses can visit www.EBPD.net to register their alarm system.

Similar to towns like Princeton and Montclair, the East Brunswick police department is now requiring residents and businesses to register their home security systems with CryWolf, an alarm tracking company. This is an effort to reduce the number of false alarm calls police have to respond to. Once an alarm is registered, a home can be fined if they set off the false alarm more than twice each year.

There is a one-time $10 fee to register an alarm. Both businesses and residents will receive one free false alarm call per year. East Brunswick passed an "Alarm Ordinance" earlier this month, and accounts that are unregistered will be assessed an additional $50 fee per day that a false alarm occurs.

Starting Friday, June 1, the East Brunswick Police Department will begin tracking the number of false alarms from any one property. In cases where police respond to two or more false alarms per year, the registered alarm user will face a series of graduated fines, ranging from $25 to $200 for each violation.

Excessive repeated false alarms (six or more in a year) may result in suspension of response, which means the East Brunswick Police Department will no longer respond to alarm calls at that location. Proof will then have to be provided to the police that the alarm has been fixed and tested.
