South River Clown Sightings Just Pranks: Police
Don't dress as clowns: "Someone may perceive these actions to be a threat and take justice into their own hands," South River police say.
SOUTH RIVER, NJ-- Recent rumors and social media posts about clowns are nothing more than rumors, South River police say.
While there have been no confirmed clown sightings in South River, police say they are investigating the situation. Police say there is no threat, and the recent reports of clowns seem to be stemming from a prank.
They had an interesting warning for teenagers: don't dress up like clowns.

"We would like to warn all teens and young adults to not get involved in this fad of dressing as clowns to cause fear and panic," South River police said in an alert, "The risk exists that someone may perceive these actions to be a threat and take justice into their own hands."
Creating a false public alarm, harassment and disturbing the peace can all lead to criminal charges, police said, so this Halloween season try and pick a less alarming costume.
