Team Quarantines As East Brunswick Athlete Tests COVID Positive

The varsity athlete from East Brunswick High School tested positive for COVID-19.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – A student-athlete from East Brunswick High School has tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in the entire team quarantining for the next 14 days, informed the school district.

The district did not release information on which team was quarantined.

“We have just been informed that one of our varsity athletes has a lab confirmed positive case of COVID-19. The team will quarantine for our mandatory 14-day period. The student athlete has not been part of our hybrid learning model and has not been in school,” Superintendent Victor Valeski said in a statement to the school community.

Valeski said as “per NJDOH and CDC guidelines” the team of student-athletes will have to quarantine as "close contacts".

Meanwhile, the district also reported that the Hatikvah International Academy Charter School will be moving to remote instruction until Oct. 26 as two students tested positive for COVID-19.

“I confirmed that neither student is an EB resident nor did they ride our district provided buses,” said Valeski

“This serves as an important reminder for all of us as we begin another weekend of activities outside of school...if your child or any member of your family is exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 or even the flu, please keep your child home from school until they have been examined and cleared by a physician,” Valeski reminded parents and guardians.
