East Hanover Included In Aerial Mosquito Treatment Wednesday, Thursday

The county says helicopter applications are planned after high populations of mosquito larvae were found in aquatic habitats.

EAST HANOVER, NJ — East Hanover is among eight Morris County municipalities included in an aerial mosquito larvicide operation scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

The County of Morris said applications will begin at 7 a.m. both days and will be conducted by helicopter. Chatham, Chatham Township, Florham Park, Hanover, Lincoln Park, Montville and Parsippany are also included.

The treatment comes "due to high populations of larval mosquitoes in aquatic habitats," according to the county.

Officials said VectoPrime FG will be used, with Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis and (S)-methoprene as its active ingredients.

The county stressed that the operation targets larvae rather than flying adult mosquitoes.

"Mosquito larvae are the immature stage of the flying adult mosquito," officials said, adding that larval habitat is standing water.
