Whippany Park High School Names Second Marking Period Character Counts Recipients
Whippany Park High School recognizes students Kristi Zick and Nick Castano as Marking Period 2 Character Counts Award recipients.

Whippany Park’s Character Counts Award was established to recognize students who regularly exhibit exemplary character. These are individuals who demonstrate the six pillars of characters: caring, respect, responsibility, fairness, trustworthiness, and citizenship. One male and one female student are selected each marking period based on nominations received from administrators, faculty, students, and community members.
Our female recipient, Kristi Zick, consistently demonstrates the traits of strong character. She is polite, motivated, and caring, and a hard worker as both a student and a Whippany Park Pride member.
Kristi’s positivity is infectious. As one of her teachers notes, her “attitude is always upbeat and I have never seen her enter my classroom without a smile.” Another faculty member adds, “She has a genuine interest and respect for all students. This respect transcends grade level and social circles.” Perhaps one of her teachers sums it up best when she says simply, “She is phenomenal.”

Our male recipient, Nick Castano, truly represents the pillars of good character as he is described as friendly, polite, and personable. Previously recognized for performing a “random act of kindness,” he has deservedly earned a reputation for being nice.
According to one of his teachers, “he is a conscientious student who goes out of his way to help others. He is always the first one to volunteer to help.” As another staff member adds, “he can be seen around the building assisting others with a smile.” Nick, as one of his teachers puts it, “is the very definition of good character!”
