City Fire Equipment Co. Reopens After Recovering From Sandy Damage

East Hanover business to hold grand re-opening on Dec. 6.

City Fire Equipment Co. of Hanover will hold a grand re-opening next month after being closed due to Superstorm Sandy damage.

The store, located in East Hanover at 733 Ridgedale Ave., will open Friday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The grand opening will include breakfast and lunch along with door prizes and a grand prize of a 32-inch TV will be awarded.

The store provides fire safety equipment, including extinguishers, smoke detectors and ladders, at 20 percent discounts. City Fire was founded in 1952 by William J. Bretzger, a Newark firefighter who began his business by filling extinguishers for building owners in his garage.

"The Store at City Fire has always been our way of retaining our tie to our roots,” said Paul McGrath, City Fire president. "We serve more than 4,000 accounts and 5,000 sites yet we care as much today about local homeowners and small businesses as we ever did. The store provides access to discounted fire safety equipment to homeowners and smaller businesses who do not always have the resources that larger companies have.

"The reopening of our store is one more indication that New Jersey and New Jersey businesses are stronger than the storm and continue to rebound."
