East Hanover Schools to Have Half-Day Monday
Superintendent hopes to return to full-day schedule on Wednesday.

East Hanover schools will have a scheduled early dismissal Monday, Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricci said.
According to a statement released Sunday, the East Hanover Middle School and Central Elementary School have been restored to full power. Frank J. Smith School will be operating on generated power with the boilers, fire alarms, lights and telephones energized.
Schools will be closed Tuesday for Election Day and re-open Wednesday for what Ricci hopes is a full-day schedule the rest of the week. The schedule for Wednesday and the rest of the week is expected to be finalized on Tuesday, Ricci said.

"Our buildings are warm and safe and it is time to welcome our students back to school," Ricci said.

- Beforecare, Aftercare and all after school activities will be canceled for Monday. Wrap Around will run according to the Early Dismissal Schedule.
- The fifth-grade parent meeting at 12:45 p.m. will be rescheduled.
- Lunch/snacks will not be served; students should bring a snack and drink to school.
- Dress students in layers to allow for maximum comfort during the day.
- EHMS photo retakes will be rescheduled.

"Power restoration is ongoing throughout our community. Some residents have seen their power restored," Ricci said. "However, there are many members of our community that are still without. For those residents that have not had power restored, JCP&L continues to work around the clock to restore power to 100 percent of our community.
"We recognize that many within our community continue to experience hardship. Please contact your child’s building principal, or me, directly if we can provide additional assistance to you and your family. Please note, if you believe that it is in your child’s best interest to remain at home with you, we understand. Please contact your school nurse and alert her to your decision."
East Hanover Middle School shelter will remain open for residents without power. Stations remain available for charging electronic devices with heat, water and limited food available. First responders will be on site at all times and the gymnasium shelter area will not be used by EHMS for school related activities, Ricci said.
