Man Sentenced To 12 Years For East Hanover Armed Robbery: Prosecutor

The man stole $5,000 from a Babies-R-Us at gunpoint, the prosecutor said.

EAST HANOVER, NJ— An East Orange man was sentenced on Wednesday for robbing a Babies-R-Us at gunpoint, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said in a statement.

Jamal C. Nurse of East Orange was sentenced to 12 years for robbing the East Hanover store at gunpoint on July 19, 2014. He was found guilty by a jury trial.

Dressed in black and wearing a facemask, Nurse pointed a gun at two employees in the parking lot who leaving for the night. He forced them to reopen the closed store, and kept the gun pointed at them as they opened a safe.

Nurse took $5,000 in cash and fled the scene. It took four months to locate him using surveillance video and text message and cell phone records.

He was found guilty of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of robbery, one count of burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon and two counts of false imprisonment.
