Novartis Could Lay Off Over 200 Workers In East Hanover

This is the second mass lay off planned for the East Hanover location.

EAST HANOVER, NJ — East Hanover-based Novartis Pharmaceuticals could lay off over 200 employees this summer, according to a notice filed with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act) notice says that as of July 28, 204 employees could lose their jobs at the pharmaceutical company's East Hanover headquarters. Companies are required to publish a WARN notice 60 days ahead of a planned mass lay-off.

Novartis Pharmaceuticals laid off 94 workers from it's headquarters earlier this year, part of a 760-person lay off nation wide. The company has been downsizing for years; in 2012, 1,960 workers lost jobs across the county, nj.com reported.
