Phoenix Center Hosts Volunteers from Novartis

Teachers and therapists at The Phoenix Center got a helping hand from a group of dedicated volunteers who came to the school as part of the Novartis Group’s Annual Community Partnership Day.

Volunteers from Novartis spent the day at The Phoenix Center, a private, non-profit school serving more than 150 students with complex multiple disabilities.  The team created items for the classroom, including adaptive curricular materials, visual schedules, and highly individualized program materials designed by teachers for each student.

“We are thrilled to have the Novartis volunteers back at the Phoenix Center,” said Dr. Geraldine Gibbia, Executive Director of the school. “This is the 6th year we have been part of Community Partnership Day, and every year, it gets better.”

Volunteers arrived early in the morning shortly after students did, and stayed through the end of the day.

“We really value the time and talent these volunteers bring to our school,” added Gibbia. “These are our friends and neighbors stepping in to help us do our work – work we could not do without community support.”

The Phoenix Center is private non-profit school that is approved and monitored by the state of New Jersey. Students are placed by their local school district, and attend the Center at no cost to parents.
