Ridgedale Avenue to Shut for Two Days During Railroad Fix

One of Morristown’s major travel arteries will be closed to through traffic for two days later this month so the state can replace railroad tracks.

Morristown Police announced Tuesday a section of Ridgedale Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 until later afternoon on Thursday, Aug. 21, or until the work is complete.

The state is in the process of replacing existing railroad tracks on the Morristown and Erie rail line, police said, and will be working in the roadway on Ridgedale Avenue. As a result, traffic will be detoured those two days and traffic delays will likely occur.

While Ridgedale Avenue will be closed at John Street during the two days, local businesses will remain open and police officers will be on scene to assist employees and customers attempting to reach those establishments.

Detours will be established as follows:

Motorists heading northbound on Ridgedale Avenue toward Morris Township and Hanover Township will be detoured onto westbound Abbett Avenue, northbound Martin Luther King Avenue, eastbound Hanover Avenue and back to Ridgedale Avenue.

Motorists heading southbound on Ridgedale Avenue toward Morristown will be detoured onto eastbound East Hanover Avenue, southbound Whippany Road, westbound LaFayette Avenue and back to Ridgedale Avenue.

Police are encouraging drivers to plan an entirely alternate route to avoid delays and detours.
