2 Teachers From East Windsor Win NJ’s ‘Exemplary Educators' Recognition

Elementary school teachers Taylor Trost and Valerie Barbarise were recognized f their skills and vision in teaching.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ - Two elementary school teachers from East Windsor have been chosen as “exemplary educators” in New Jersey.

Taylor Trost, Grace N. Rogers Elementary School teacher, and Valerie Barbarise, Ethel McKnight Elementary School have been chosen as the 2022 New Jersey Exemplary Educators by the New Jersey Department of Education.

The goal of Exemplary Educators program is to identify teachers who are valued by their school and community and have shown strong knowledge and skills, an inspiring presence, and a clear vision for quality teaching and learning.

Superintendent Mark Daniels said he was honored that the award went to two teachers from the school district.

“They truly serve as models of professionalism, who consistently engage, inspire, and are committed to addressing the needs of their students," Daniels said in a statement.

Trost has worked at the East Windsor Regional School District for seven years as a second, third, and fourth-grade teacher.

“I feel so honored to have been recognized in such a meaningful way. As teachers, we just hope that the work we do is making a positive impact,” Toth said. “I truly learn so much from my peers, students, and school leaders every day.”

Lori Emmerson, principal of Grace N. Rogers Elementary School, called Trost an “exceptional" teacher. “The ability she has to deliver instruction that inspires, engages, and excites her students to learn is impressive and her willingness to open her classroom to and share her knowledge with colleagues makes her a well-respected staff member. She is truly deserving of this award,” Emmerson said in a statement.

Barbarise has taught for 13 years and has worked in the district for seven years as a fifth-grade and first-grade teacher.

The teacher said the award was a reflection of the “wonderful educators” at the school district. “This is not a job that can be done alone. Teachers need other teachers for collaboration and support. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful educators I’ve been able to work with, Barbarise said.

Nicole Foulks, principal of Ethel McKnight Elementary School, said Barbarise is an “outstanding” and “exemplary” educator.

“Her passion for teaching and love for her students is evident each time you walk into her classroom. She is an active and valued member of our school community who is always willing to share her expertise,” Foulks said. “She is truly deserving of this recognition.”
