Driver Critical After Tractor-Trailer Collision On NJ Highway
Police say the 80-year-old man may have suffered a medical episode before his vehicle struck the tractor-trailer.
WEST WINDSOR — An 80-year-old man was hospitalized with multiple life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning after the vehicle he was driving struck a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 1 South, West Windsor Police said.
The crash occurred around 9:52 a.m. near Fisher Place. According to police, a 2024 Kia traveling southbound made contact with the center median several times before drifting into the center lane and striking the rear of a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 38-year-old man from Bogota, NJ, told officers he felt a slight impact and, upon checking his mirrors, saw the Kia in its final resting position in the left lane. He was not injured.

Emergency medical personnel, responding to multiple 911 calls, found the Kia's driver, the 80-year-old man, unresponsive at the scene. EMS removed the driver from the vehicle, and he was taken to Capital Health Regional - Fuld Campus.
According to preliminary investigation, the 80-year-old may have experienced a medical episode and lost consciousness prior to the crash, police said. As of the time of the report, he’s admitted to the hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries.

The registered owner of the Kia responded to the scene and provided officers with dash camera footage of the incident. The identities of both drivers are being withheld pending investigation.
