East Windsor Earns Tree City USA Honor For 26th Consecutive Year

East Windsor marks its 26th Tree City USA designation with a free seedling giveaway April 25 at the PAL fields on Airport Road.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — East Windsor has been named a 2025 Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation, marking the 26th consecutive year the township has earned the designation, Mayor Janice S. Mironov said.

The recognition is awarded to communities that meet four standards set by the Arbor Day Foundation: maintaining a tree board or department, enforcing a tree-care ordinance, budgeting at least $2 per capita for community forestry, and observing Arbor Day with a formal proclamation.

"Trees are a vital component of our community that provide long-term environmental and economic benefits," Mironov said. "Trees help clean the air, conserve soil and water, moderate temperature and bring the beauty of nature into our daily lives."

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

In recognition of Arbor Day, the East Windsor Environmental Commission will distribute free Sweet Birch seedlings to township residents Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon at the East Windsor Police Athletic League fields, 30 Airport Road. Seedlings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The rain date is Saturday, May 2.

The township is also inviting residents and groups to honor Arbor Day, observed April 24, by participating in its Memorial Tree Grove Program. Trees are planted on the grounds of the East Windsor Municipal Building along Lanning Boulevard and accompanied by a granite marker bearing the name of the person or event being commemorated. Memorial trees are planted each spring and fall.

Residents can order a memorial tree through the Township Public Works Department. Brochures and order forms are available at east-windsor.nj.us, at the municipal building, or by calling 609-443-4000, ext. 415.
