EAST WINDSOR, NJ — A new income-restricted rental community in East Windsor is now accepting preliminary applications, township officials announced.
Mayor Janice Mironov said the developer, Community Investment Strategies, is taking applications for The Place at East Windsor, a 56-unit community. Preliminary applications will be accepted through Monday, Oct. 26.
Information packets and applications are available at the municipal building at 16 Lanning Blvd. and at the Township Senior Center at 40 Lanning Blvd. Applications can also be downloaded at ciscommunities.com/theplaceateastwindsor.
Mironov encouraged residents to apply, even though state law does not allow the township to give local residents priority.
"While New Jersey law does not allow a residency restriction, this provides a great opportunity for local residents, through the process, to receive consideration for an affordable unit here in East Windsor," she said.
She said senior citizens who want to stay in the community, young people raised in town who are starting out with limited incomes, locally employed teachers and first responders, and local families who might qualify should submit an application.
"The process to submit a Preliminary Application is very simple and is the initial step to be entered for consideration and possible selection to occupy this brand new housing community," Mironov said.
After the Oct. 26 deadline, a randomized lottery will determine each household's order on the list. Those households will then receive a full application, which will be processed to determine eligibility. Rent is based on household income, and income, credit and other eligibility requirements apply.
The Place at East Windsor will offer a variety of floor plans. Each apartment includes high-efficiency central heating and air conditioning, luxury vinyl flooring, ceramic-tiled bathrooms, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a range, and washer and dryer hookups. The community will be 100 percent smoke-free.
