HIGHTSTOWN, NJ — Police have charged an 18-year-old who they say pointed a gun at a pizza driver in Hightstown on Wednesday afternoon and stole about $50 worth of food. Police later found the gun was a starter pistol.
Tahjion Sunkins, who police said is living at the Motel 6 in East Windsor, was charged with robbery, theft, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief.
Around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Hightstown officers were sent to the Townhouse Apartments at 107 Manlove Ave. for a reported robbery, police said.
Investigators found that someone had walked up to a driver for a local pizza business, displayed a black, revolver-style handgun and taken the food, police said.
Officers used video cameras in the area to track the suspect to the Motel 6 in East Windsor. With help from East Windsor police, officers found Sunkins there and detained him.
After Sunkins was positively identified, officers did a consent search and recovered evidence from the robbery, including the black revolver-style gun, police said. Police later determined the gun was consistent with a starter pistol.
No one was hurt, including the driver, the suspect and the officers, police said.
Sunkins was taken to the Mercer County Adult Correction Center to await a commitment hearing.
