HEWYBL Update – Week ending 4/30/11

Cal Ripken T-BALL
The Blue Bombers, sponsored by J. Russo Pavers and Reflections Hair & Nail Studio Bears played to a 12-12 tie. For the Blue Bombers Joseph Dona made excellent throws to 1st Base and hit 3 for 3. Meghan and Alison Sharpe each played 1st Base superbly, and they also hit very well. The Bears were led by the offense of Nell Richardson and Ben Dubrule and the solid throws to first by Sean Alhadef.
The Reflections Hair and Nail Studio Bears hosted the Rita’s Water Ice Green Giants to a 24 to 24 tie. The Green Giants were led by Ben Ng and Daylen Sandoral who each went 3 for 3 and on the defensive side Nicholas Walsh who should receive a golden glove for his defense. While the Bears had a strong showing by Matthew Rogers who went 5 for 5 and stopped 2 line drives. He was helped by Philip Reed and Kevin Clarke.

The Green Dragons edged out the Blue Bombers 6-5. Justin Sabogal and Christopher Drews of the Green Dragons each hit a home run and had 4 RBIs, while Justin Ford collected three hits. For the Blue Bombers, Keenan Reiss had a double and a triple, while Gavin Brown had a home run and three RBIs. Kelly McAleer and Isaiah Thornton each had two hits and two RBIs and also played great defensively."

The CCL Label Blue Dominator's played the Mahzu Red Ninja's on Monday night. There was terrific action all around. For the Dominator's, Jacob Descoteau played heads up ball at 1st base, Griffin Burd was a wall catching, and Fadil Meeran had a spectactular catch at 2nd base to end an inning. Jorden Sobers hit a screamer to right field, Fadil Meeran, Spenser Taussig and Connor Leoutsacos each had hits to keep the team moving. For the Ninjas, Andrew Mazurek struck out seven batters with Jacob "The Rock" Eufemia behind the plate, along with timely hitting from Zachery Greenberg and great defense from Joe Carlisi and Drew DeFontes.
Cal Ripken MAJORS 50/70
In HEWYBL Major Division play, the Main Street Awards Blue Hawks hosted the East Coast Martial Arts Ninjas. With a 5-5 tie after 4 innings, the Blue Hawks pulled ahead on a lead-off walk by Ryan Decoteau, followed by singles from Stephen Brookwell, Danny Burgess and Joey Caruso to end the game at 8-5. For the Blue Hawks, Stephen Brookwell went 3-4 and cracked a long 2 run homer over the right field fence. With Joe Caruso on second, Justin Bogen laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt scoring Caruso. Ryan Decoteau, in his Major division pitching debut, allowed only 2 hits and struck out 2 in 2 innings of play. For the Ninjas, Nikhil Cukkemane blasted a double to the fence scoring on 3 errors. Nikhil also pitched 3 solid innings striking out 7 players! Matt Erman made a great running stab in left field to prevent a run. Steven Lippman finished the game with a strong pitching performance striking out 5.
In the HEWYBL Major Division play, the Main Street Awards Blue Hawks beat the J.E. Movers by a tight score of 7-5. Danny Burgess went 2-3 sending a 2 run homer over the left field fence. Catcher, Thomas Hartnett threw a perfect throw to get the runner at second attempting to advance on a passed ball. Joey Caruso had a solid pitching performance. For the Movers, Ryan DeMille went 2-2 with 2 doubles that reached both the left and center field fences. Both Ryan DeMille and Anthony Lazzaro turned out great pitched performances.
