How Do You Expose Your Kids to Different and New Cultures (on the Cheap)?
Movies can help expose your children to different cultures.
For many, it’s tough and too costly to travel the globe with your toddlers and growing kids and family. But, you want to give them some introduction, some form of exposure to other lifestyles, lands and cultures. Some might have a multicultural family, but even then, it is still quite a big world.
We’ve been fortunate enough to take our kids on almost a dozen cruises over the past nine years. Some have been over the December holiday spanning 12 to 14 days. Being on a cruise ship this time of year has and does allow my kids to meet other kids their age as well as adults from all over the world. This seems like a prime time for families from abroad to holiday in the Caribbean. We have also had enjoyable experiences with private tour guides, meeting and learning from natives of the likes of the many Virgin Islands to the more exotic Dominica (Nature Island). To date my family has been to 14 different islands, some more than once or twice.
I stumbled on this web site and I knew I had to share it here with the Patch bloggers, especially posting it for the mommy-bloggers who have young children. It is called To Europe with Kids (& a popular blog it is, with almost 10K subscribers!) and I was enchanted with the idea of “Movie Monday: Mary Poppins.” As most of us know, Mary Poppins takes place in England and although it was filmed in Burbank, CA, the set and scenery make you feel as if you were there! A great film to share with your kids! Listed are other Monday Movie posts offering suggestions on movies to watch with your kids that will afford them a peek into other countries.
