Child Seat Safety Checks To Continue In Mercer County In 2023

The free program is part of the Sheriff's ongoing campaign to ensure children are properly secured in the vehicle.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — If you missed out on getting your child seat safety check last year, you have another chance.

Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler recently announced that on-site child seat safety checks would continue this year In Mercer County.

County residents can get safety checks done at the Colonial Fire Company, located at 801 Kuser Road in Hamilton Township.

The free program, partially funded by a grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, is part of the Sheriff's ongoing campaign to help parents, grandparents, expecting parents, and others properly secure their children in vehicles.

Trained and certified Sheriff's Officers will conduct checks for proper installation. They will also help residents determine if the child is in the right seat for their age and size.

"No one ever wants to get it wrong when it comes to a child's overall safety in an automobile. It is important for parents, grandparents, and those expecting a child to know that your children are safely secured in their car seat and are in the right seat for their age and size," Kemler said in a statement.

In 2023, the safety checks will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month. Here are the dates:

  • Jan. 31
  • Feb. 28
  • March 28
  • April 25
  • May 30
  • June 27
  • July 25
  • Aug. 29
  • Sept. 26
  • Oct. 31
  • Nov. 28

No inspections are scheduled in December due to the holiday season. Inspections take place in a weather-protected area at the rear of the firehouse. Participants should install their car seats before arrival.
