Community Raises Funds For Family Displaced By East Windsor Fire
The fire broke out around 2:25 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at 140 Bennington Drive. The home on 138 and 142 also sustained damage.
EAST WINDSOR, NJ — The East Windsor community has come together to help a family displaced by a fire that engulfed their home on March 5.
The fire broke out around 2:25 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at 140 Bennington Drive. On arrival, officers found that the fire had engulfed all levels of the structure.
The home on 138 and 142 Bennington Drive also sustained moderate damage from the fire. The properties were inspected by township officials and determined to be uninhabitable, police said.

The woman who lived in 140 sustained cuts, scrapes, and burns to her arms, legs, and head. She was taken to Cooperman Barnabus Medical Center, police said.
“The family directly next to this house has been the backbone of our little culdesac and frequently took meals and groceries to the house next door, helping to look out for the woman who lived there,” Abigail Peterson, who started the GoFundMe said.

“They are facing displacement for the next year. The firewall was compromised when the fire came through the attic, causing the ceiling to collapse; it's a total rebuild. All of their household items have either smoke and/or water damage.”
Peterson said insurance coverage will help a little, but the family needs assistance with alternative housing, replacement of home furnishings, and other household items.
As of Monday afternoon, $865 was raised. The goal is to reach $20,000.
