Downtown Hightstown, Inc. and Hightstown High School partner to create welcoming gateway into Hightstown

Downtown Hightstown Inc., a group of local residents, business owners and friends of Hightstown, is partnering with the Hightstown High School industrial arts program to revitalize the six large Hightstown “gateway” signs located on the major roadways into town.

In recent years these signs have become faded, in some cases broken, and our group was looking into different ways to have the signs refurbished. Bill Delaney, vice principal of the Hightstown High School, mentioned that the industrial arts program at the high school could help out. We enthusiastically embraced the idea of getting the high school students involved as we thought it would help foster a sense of ownership and pride in their community. Now every time the students pass the signs, they will know they had a hand in keeping our community beautiful and welcoming,” said Ryan Rosenberg, Downtown Hightstown, Inc. board member.

After a few months of working out the logistics, the first sign was dropped off at the high school in March, and the newly repainted and repaired sign was installed on Mercer Street in June.

Before the school year was over, a second sign was repaired, repainted and replaced on Franklin Street. The project will continue when school resumes in September.

The students and teachers at the high school did a fantastic job. The signs look great and it is a nice welcome to motorists entering our town.” Rosenberg said.
