East Windsor Celebrates Women's History Month With Mayoral Proclamation

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — Mayor Janice S. Mironov proclaimed March Women's History Month in East Windsor Township, joined by a group of area elected officials at a ceremony last week.

Among those attending were state Sen. Linda Greenstein, Assemblywomen Tennille McCoy and Mitchelle Drulis, Mercer County Surrogate Diane Gerofsky, Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami-Covello, and Hopewell Township Committeewoman Courtney Peters-Manning.

Mironov acknowledged the contributions of the elected women officials present and said the month serves as an opportunity to highlight the roles women play in government and community life. Each official spoke about her experiences in public service and the importance of mentoring the next generation of women leaders, according to the mayor's office.

The mayoral proclamation celebrates the accomplishments of women in civic, political and cultural life and recognizes those whose leadership and determination have, in the proclamation's words, "strengthened our society and paved the way for progress."

Women's History Month traces its origins to 1980, when President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the week of March 8 of that year a national celebration of women's history.
