East Windsor Council Swears in Yeager

The new councilman takes the place of former Deputy Mayor Walter T. Daniels Jr.

Peter Yeager was supported by family and friends as he was sworn into office on the East Windsor Township Council at the governing body's Tuesday night meeting. Yeager took the chair of . He comes to the council having served 12 years on the East Windsor Planning Board.

Yeager is the former communications director for U.S. Representative Rush Holt. He currently serves as the client relations director in the Student and Teacher Assessment Division for the Education Testing Service in Princeton. He is also vice president of East Windsor Green Space, Inc. and coaches soccer in his spare time.

Mayor Janice Mironov and the rest of the council were “excited and fortunate” to have Yeager join them. “I’ve known Peter for many years… so this is a personal pleasure for me,” said Mayor Mironov. “He will do a very terrific job.”

“I want to thank the mayor and council for putting their trust in me.”

There are some issues that the Yeager said he's specifically excited to tackle in his new role. “I’m particularly interested in parks and recreation, making sure we have increased facilities if we can – through grants, not to burden the taxpayers, if we can,” Yeager said.

The new councilman has shown a passion for the environment and keeping the natural beauty of the parks in East Windsor, having served as one of the volunteers at the Etra Lake Park clean-up this year. He also said he hopes to make the community more bicycle-friendly and keep sports fields at Etra Lake Park clean – the same fields where his daughters play soccer.

“When your kids are into it you have no choice but to be attentive to that,” he said. His wife, mother, and two children attended the meeting to watch as he was sworn in. His mother and daughter both helped hold the Bible as he took his oath of office.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m.
