East Windsor Named Tree USA City For 2017

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — East Windsor Township has been recognized for its commitment to community forestry, township officials announced on Thursday. East Windsor has been named a Tree City USA community for 2017 by The National Arbor Day Foundation.

• Having a tree board or department;
• A tree-care ordinance;
• A comprehensive community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and
• An Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service. The Arbor Day Foundation is a million member nonprofit conservation and education organization with the mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.

“Trees help clean the air, conserve soil and water, moderate temperature and bring nature into our daily lives,” East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov said. “Tree City USA recognizes the hard work of East Windsor’s elected officials, staff and citizens who plant and care for the community. Trees are a vital component of our community and provide environmental and economical benefits.”
