East Windsor School Board Member Resigns

A Hightstown representative for the East Windsor Regional School District's Board of Education has resigned, and the board is accepting applications to fill the vacant seat.

After serving on the board since April 1992, Susan Lloyd said she resigned, effective June 30, because of family matters.

“This was not an easy decision as I have truly enjoyed my time and have found it interesting, challenging and rewarding,” Lloyd said in an email to Patch. “However, family is the first priority.”

Lloyd outlined several of the board’s accomplishments and challenges over the years. She said the curriculum was strengthened and there is more of an emphasis on language arts, literacy and math, as well as individual instruction. As for challenges, Lloyd said some of the them continue, including budgets, decreased state funding and increased state and federal mandates.

“One of the best parts of being a member of the EWRSD Board of Education is the amazing people on the Board,” Lloyd said in the email. “We have worked hard to do what is best for all students and not one particular group. Each board member has his/her own specific ideas and we do disagree with each other, but we make decisions as a whole that best suit the entire district.”

The school board is accepting applications to fill the vacant seat through January 2013, and those who wish to apply must submit a letter of intent and agree to a public interview before the board.
