East Windsor Seeks Funding For Inclusive Playground At Etra Lake Park

A public hearing will be held Feb. 24 for residents to learn more and share feedback.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — East Windsor Township wants to replace the existing playground at Etra Lake Park with a fully accessible, inclusive play area — and residents will have a chance to weigh in later this month.

The township is applying for grant funding through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Green Acres Park Development Program to pay for the project at the park, located at 9 Disbrow Hill Road.

If funded, the project would remove the current playground equipment and install a new fully inclusive playground designed for children of all abilities, including those with physical, sensory, cognitive and social needs.

The new equipment would exceed minimum federal accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The upgraded playground would also feature safer, impact-absorbing surfacing and updated amenities aimed at making the park more welcoming for children, caregivers and families.

A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at Township Hall, following the regular Council meeting. Residents can attend in person to ask questions or share comments.

Those who cannot attend in person can submit written comments by email to Business_Ombudsman@east-windsor.nj.us.

A concept plan, preliminary cost estimate and environmental impact assessment are available for review on the township's website at www.east-windsor.nj.us.

No construction timeline or cost estimate has been publicly announced. The project is contingent on the township receiving state grant approval.
