Fiery NJ Turnpike Crash in Mercer Co. Leaves Man Seriously Injured

A semi-trailer struck a disabled Chrysler van on the northbound outer roadway, setting both vehicles ablaze, NJ State Police said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Delaware man sustained serious injuries Saturday night after a tractor-trailer slammed into his disabled van on the New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville Township, engulfing both vehicles in flames, state police said.

Troopers responded at 8:22 p.m. to the northbound outer roadway near milepost 62.1, where a Chrysler van operated by Ronald Metviner, 56, of New Castle, Del., had stopped and was disabled in the roadway.

A Freightliner semi-trailer traveling northbound struck the van, and both vehicles caught fire, according to a preliminary investigation.

Metviner was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation, NJSP said.
