Girl, 5, Killed In Fiery Truck Crash On New Jersey Turnpike

A 5-year-old girl was killed in a fiery crash that involved a car and two trucks, all three of which erupted in flames.

A 5-year-old girl was killed Wednesday morning after a tractor trailer hit a car that was stopped on the New Jersey Turnpike, police said

The girl, who was not identified, was a passenger in a Honda SUV that had struck a barrier of the Turnpike around 3:17 a.m.

The Honda had been sitting on the roadway in the right lane near Exit 8, at milepost 66.3, in East Windsor when a tractor trailer pulled over, police said. The truck driver appeared ready to assist.

Soon after, another tractor trailer struck the Honda against the barrier and slammed into the other truck. Flames erupted in all three vehicles, and the 5-year-old girl, Gesselle Argueta of Rahway, was ejected from the Honda, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the Honda, Ana Alvarez-Marquina, 36, of Rahway, suffered minor injuries. The right and center lanes of the roadway were closed for hours.
