Local Firefighter Running For Council Seat

Hightstown GOP elects Serrano to run.

Resident and volunteer firefighter George Serrano was unanimously elected Tuesday by the Hightstown Republican Municipal Committee to run for councilman Mike Vanderbeck’s current seat on the Borough Council, according to a news release.

"George Serrrano brings great assets to our ticket,” said Skye Gilmartin, the Republican Municipal Chair and current candidate, said in the release. “George brings to the campaign a unique skillset and background that rounds out our ability as a team to represent the Whole Community of Hightstown.”

Serrano has been an active volunteer for the fire department for the past five years and served on the borough’s Overcrowding Committee in 2006, the release said. He is also the property manager/superintendent for the Deerfield-Westerlea apartment complexes.

"Hightstown is a very diverse community, as is the small community where I work,” Serrano said in the release. "My experience may be very helpful in improving communications within the Borough, especially when it comes to dealing with current code enforcement issues. I also believe that my service on Borough Council will broaden the diversity of Hightstown's elected representation."

Vanderbeck was elected after Dimitri Musing left last April, the release said.
