Longtime East Windsor Volunteer Recognized For Service
Stephen Schienvar is the 2017 recipient of the Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer.
EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — Stephen Schienvar is the 2017 recipient of the Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer, township officials said Wednesday morning. The annual award recognizes a senior citizen who has exhibited outstanding service through volunteerism to the community by way of schools, religious institutions, service organizations or directly to the public. Sylvia Weiss was a former East Windsor Township Council Member, past Council senior citizen adviser and chairperson of the Commission on Aging, and was instrumental in the original formation of the senior citizen program.
An East Windsor resident for 44 years, Schienvar has been involved in many area organizations for the last several decades. He’s contributed both to the community and to the well-being of many individuals.
Schienvar was an Emergency Medical Technician with East Windsor Rescue Squad volunteer for 30 years. He served in several positions of key responsibility, including as Treasurer for the organization for over 10 years.

Currently, he is the Chairperson of the East Windsor Township Juvenile Conference Committee, on which he has volunteered for over 27 years. The committee is a Court-appointed group that handles East Windsor Township juvenile referrals to provide guidance to help prevent future misconduct.
He also volunteers as a Care Ambassador in the emergency room of the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, offering support to the hospital staff and patients and their families.

“Steve Schienvar has been a dedicated volunteer for decades, with a longtime commitment to service, giving of his time and skills to assist our residents and young people,” Mayor Janice S. Mironov said when she and the the Township Commission on Aging presented the honor to Schienvar at a recent council meeting. “Steve is a generous caring person with a big heart who is always willing to help out others. We are fortunate to have someone with Steve’s dedication and spirit in our community.”
