Mary Fahl to perform at Hamilton Stage

Former lead singer of October Project to perform at Hamilton Stage in Rahway with special guest, Rachael Sage on Saturday, December 19th

“Sounding like no other singer of her generation” (Allmusic.com), Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s NYC-based chamber-pop group October Project. The hallmark of their sound was Mary’s awe-inspiring power vocals over gorgeous melodies played with passion and sophistication.

Since the band disbanded, Mary has released several compelling albums, including the fantastic re-working of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” for V2 Records; her wonderful, original studio album “The Other Side of Time” on Sony Odyssey; and her acclaimed album “Love and Gravity.” She has also written and performed songs for several major motion pictures, including the lead song (“Going Home”) for the Civil War epic Gods and Generals. Now Mary returns with her album “Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House,” a collection of twenty-four tracks recorded live at one of America’s oldest vaudeville theaters and filmed for PBS and aired late last year. Fahl’s elegant, cinematic songs draw on classical and world music sources, American art song, as well as thinking man’s folk-pop. She performs with an earthy, viscerally powerful contralto that Boston Globe critic Steve Morse calls “a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms.” Her upcoming performances will include “Exiles,” a song written for Anne Rice’s new audiobook “The Wolves of Midwinter,” a stunning cover of the Joni Mitchell classic “Both Sides Now,” and many October Project favorites.

Rachael Sage will open the show! A soulful vocalist and innovative multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and producer Rachael Sage has become one of the busiest touring artists in independent music, performing 100+ dates a year with her band The Sequins throughout the US, UK, Europe and Asia. She has earned a loyal following for her dynamic piano playing, delicate guitar work, soulful vocals. and improvisational audience interaction.
