Mercer County Community College Satellite Campus to Open at Hightstown High School

Board of Education members approved the contract at Monday's meeting.

Mercer County Community College is opening a satellite campus at in spring 2012, according to a statement released Tuesday.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for all of our residents and also for some high school students,” said Edward Forsthoffer, superintendent of the East Windsor Regional School District, in a statement.

Courses, which could include an English, technology and English as a Second Language, will start in the spring to gauge interest, the statement said.

“A lack of public transportation has prevented some of our residents from attending the college. By bringing the college into our district, more of our residents can begin, continue or complete their college degree,” Forsthoffer said.

School officials were approached by MCCC a few months ago about the satellite campus, and approved the contract unanimously at the Dec. 12 Board of Education meeting.

College classes will be held in the evenings and open to residents and high school students, the statement said.

Hightstown High School students are currently offered some classes online that count as both high school and college credit, and officials are discussing adding college classes in the high school itself.
