Police Investigate Suspicious Package In Mercer County

The package was reported one day after 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami was arrested in connection with the bombings in Seaside Heights and NY.

Authorities shut down a portion of West State Street in Trenton Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered outside the NJ State Fraternal Order of Police building, the Trentonian reports.

As it turns out, the package was trash, but FOP President Robert W. Fox told the newspaper authorities are on a heightened sense of alert after the bombs that were found in Seaside Heights over the weekend and in Elizabeth on Monday.

The package was reported at about 12:19 p.m. There was a large presence of police and firefighters outside the building. Trenton Police lead the investigation with assistance from State Police and others.

The package was reported one day after police arrested 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami in connection with the weekend bombings in Seaside Park, New Jersey, and the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea, as well as the discovery of five explosive devices in Elizabeth.

On Monday, Rahami’s father revealed that he told police his son was a terrorist two years ago.
