2 People, 1 Pet Turtle Injured In Edison Hit-And-Run: Police

The driver posted an apology on Instagram saying he plans to turn himself in, Edison Police said.

EDISON, NJ – Two people were injured after they were struck by a driver who lost control of his car and fled the scene, Edison Police said.

On Sunday around 7:38 p.m., a man driving a green BMV lost control of his car and went onto the curb, striking two people, Deputy Police Chief Robert Dudash said.

The incident occurred outside the New Jersey Convention Center, after a car show.

A 49-year-old South Plainfield resident suffered head injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson hospital in New Brunswick for treatment. He was released at 2 a.m. on Monday, authorities said. The second person, a 20-year-old West Orange resident suffered leg injuries, but refused medical assistance at the scene, police said. He later went to the hospital and was released.

The 20-year-old man had a pet turtle with him during the time of the crash. The turtle was injured and is currently at the Edison Animal Shelter, Dudash said.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Darius Gomez, who later went on Instagram and posted an apology for the crash saying he plans to turn himself in, Dudash said. Gomez is yet to turn himself in.

Authorities said they are waiting to speak with Gomez and hear his side of the story, before filing possible charges.
